High Court shock to Rajpal Yadav, punishment upheld in check bounce case!

Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has received a big blow from Delhi High Court. In check bounce cases, the court has refused to interfere in the decision of the lower court by upholding his conviction. The court said that the actor was given several opportunities to repay the dues but he completely failed to fulfill his promises.

The bench of Justice Swarnakanta Sharma termed the conduct of Rajpal Yadav as suspicious and ordered that all the sentences will run concurrently, hence he will have to undergo a jail term of three months. However, he has also been given two months time to challenge this order in the Supreme Court.

Along with the jail sentence, the court has also imposed a fine of Rs 1.05 crore in each case. In this way, the total fine in all seven check bounce cases comes to Rs 7.35 crore.

According to the court order, in each case Rs 1 crore 4 lakh 75 thousand will be given to the complainant while Rs 25 thousand will be deposited to the state. The High Court also said that if Rajpal Yadav wants to challenge this decision, he is given two months time to approach the Supreme Court.

This entire matter is related to the production of the actor’s film ‘Aata Pata Lapata’. In the year 2010, Rajpal Yadav had taken a loan of Rs 5 crore from Murali Projects Private Limited for this film, but the film was not successful at the box office and the loan amount could not be returned on time. Later, several checks issued for payment bounced, following which the company filed seven separate cases against him and his wife.

In this case, the trial court had earlier sentenced Rajpal Yadav and his wife to six months’ imprisonment. Later the Sessions Court also upheld this decision. After this the matter reached Delhi High Court.

The High Court had earlier put an interim stay on his sentence and gave him time for a settlement and an opportunity to repay the outstanding amount. Despite repeated assurances, the payment was not completed. Because of this, Delhi High Court has now upheld his punishment.
