Prashant Kishor took oath as MLA, said – proud to be a member of the Assembly!

After victory in the Bankipur Assembly by-election, Jan Suraj Party founder Prashant Kishore took oath as MLA on Monday. Prashant Kishore took oath as a member of the Assembly in the office room of Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar located in the main building of the Bihar Assembly.

Bihar Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar administered the oath to him. On this occasion, Jan Suraj state president Manoj Bharti, Jan Suraj spokesperson Kumar Saurabh Singh and many other leaders were present.

Speaking to the media after taking oath, Jan Suraj Party founder and MLA Prashant Kishor said, “It is a matter of great pride for me to become a member of the Bihar Assembly, where people like Bharat Ratna Karpoori Thakur, Nitish Kumar and Lalu Yadav have served as members.

Along with these, hundreds of other MLAs and House members have dedicated precious years of their lives for the betterment of the society and the state. The idea is to take inspiration from all of them to do something for the state and the society.” On the stampede at Ashok Dham temple in Lakhisarai, he said, “We have just received the information. We will go there.”

Kishore achieved the distinction of becoming the first elected MLA of Jan Suraj Party by defeating BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha in Bankipur by-election. This result was Kishor's first electoral victory after entering electoral politics and a major achievement for the relatively new party.

Voting for the Bankipur seat was held on July 30, while the counting of votes took place on August 3. Kishor maintained his lead during the counting of votes and ultimately won by 19,324 votes. He received 64,151 votes, while BJP's Neeraj Kumar Sinha received 44,827 votes. RJD candidate Rekha Gupta stood third with 14,273 votes.

The result also ended the BJP's long-standing dominance of the constituency, which the party had controlled since 1995. The victory was particularly significant as Bankipur has traditionally been considered a BJP stronghold.

With this ceremony, Kishor will formally begin his tenure as MLA and will become the first MLA to be elected on Jan Suraj Party ticket. His victory has given the newly formed party its first presence in the state assembly and has turned the Bankipur bypoll into a hotly contested political event in Bihar.
