This legendary batsman, who has scored more than 15000 international runs, has played 391 international matches in his career. Tamim Iqbal becomes the new president of Bangladesh Cricket Board

In April 2026, the Bangladesh government dissolved the previous committee of the BCB, after which Tamim Iqbal was serving as the interim chairman. Following the recently held elections, the new Council unanimously elected him as Chairman of the Board. Tamim will now hold the responsibility of this post for the next four years. 37-year-old Tamim has also become the youngest president in the history of BCB.

What did Tamim Iqbal say after becoming the president?

After being elected BCB President, Tamim called it not an honor but a big responsibility. He said that whatever happened in Bangladesh cricket in the last one and a half years was not right, but now is the time to move forward. Tamim said that he does not want to blame anyone and everyone’s cooperation will be needed to improve Bangladesh cricket. He also said that now is the time for him to prove his ideas through work.

Elections held in Sher-e-Bangla Stadium

Tamim Iqbal was the candidate securing the most votes in the elections held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. He was among the 12 directors elected from the Dhaka Club category. After this, he was unanimously appointed president in the new council meeting. Faheem Sinha has been made the vice president, while the name of the second vice president is yet to be announced.

Had a brilliant career in international cricket

Tamim Iqbal is counted among the most successful batsmen of Bangladesh cricket. He has played 70 Tests, 243 ODIs and 78 T20 International matches for his country. He has more than 15000 runs in his name in all three formats combined. He scored 8357 runs in ODI cricket, while he has 5134 runs in Test and 1758 runs in T20 International. Tamim scored 25 centuries and 94 half-centuries in his career and also captained Bangladesh in 38 matches. Now he will try to take Bangladesh cricket to new heights in an administrative role.
