Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has given his reaction on the 'Hijab' controversy. He said that this is their traditional practice in Muslim religion, but we work as per our constitution and law. Court orders should be followed.
Speaking to IANS on the Allahabad High Court's ruling that hijab is not a part of the school uniform, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale said, “People from the Muslim community, i.e. women, wear hijab and school going girls also wear hijab. I think it is their traditional practice in the Muslim religion, but we work as per our Constitution and law.”
He said, “As the Allahabad High Court has said that it is not necessary to wear hijab, hijab should not be worn. I think the court order should be followed. The court order should be respected. We have to follow the law.”
During this, Athawale gave the example of the issue of Ayodhya Ram Mandir Janmabhoomi. He said, “The Ayodhya issue was going on for many years and no solution was emerging.
The Allahabad High Court had decided to give one-third of the land to Muslims, but the Supreme Court believed that giving 25 percent of the land would always lead to disputes.
A Muslim officer of the Archeology Department, while being a part of the initial excavation team, had put forward the idea of the remains of a temple beneath the disputed structure of Ayodhya. After this, the Supreme Court in its decision gave the entire land to Ram Temple. The court's decision was accepted by the Muslim community.”
The Union Minister said, “Similarly I think the High Court has given the decision. We are moving ahead in the 21st century. We may definitely have our own traditions, but it needs to be done within the ambit of the law.”
Regarding Asaduddin Owaisi's comment on the High Court decision, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale said, “The Muslim community has the right to form and strengthen its leadership. There are leaders who work for their community. Just as Owaisi is their leader, there are many other leaders too.”
There are Muslim leaders in BJP, Congress and my party IPI also. There are many leaders in the Muslim community. However, he says that there should be a big leader for the Muslim community.”
Athawale said that there should be a leader who can unite all the Muslims. However, there are people in Muslim society who support all parties. We should move forward to strengthen brotherhood.
