Social activist Vidyanand Bapat, who raised his voice against noise pollution during the Ganeshotsav procession in Pune, was attacked on Thursday, September 3. While he was talking to the media in Tilak Road area, an unknown man suddenly attacked him. The video of this incident has also been captured on camera. Even after the attack, Bapat made it clear that his stand was correct and he was adamant on it.
The issue of DJ and noise pollution during Ganeshotsav has been in discussion in Pune for the last few days. Vidyanand Bapat had opposed the DJ playing at loud volume during the Ganeshotsav procession. He had said that he is not against celebrating the festival, but it is important to ensure that the common people do not face problems and there is no noise pollution. Meanwhile, Bapat was talking to the media in Tilak Road area. At the same time a young man suddenly came near them and started beating Bapat. Within a short time, some people present there intervened and stopped the young man. The entire incident was captured on camera.
After the attack, Vidyanand Bapat accused the man of carrying out the attack for publicity. Bapat said that he must have attacked her, as he did not have weapons and there was no police present at the spot. He said, “I was attacked for publicity. There is video footage of all this. The police should take action after watching it.” He also reiterated that it is important to ensure that there is no noise pollution and no obstruction to traffic while celebrating the public festival.
