The Indian women's cricket team has won the gold medal in the women's cricket competition of the 2026 Asian Games being held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. India won its second consecutive gold medal by defeating Sri Lanka by a huge margin in the final match. Indian Women's Cricket Team won the gold medal by defeating Sri Lankan Women's Cricket Team by 147 runs in the final match. Batting first, under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, India made a mountain-like score of 216 runs in 20 overs. In reply, Sri Lanka's innings collapsed for just 69 runs.
Another stormy start for Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana
India won the toss and decided to bat first. Openers Shefali Verma and Smriti Mandhana gave India an aggressive start. Both of them made a tremendous partnership of 99 runs for the first wicket. Shefali Verma was just two runs away from half century. He scored 48 runs on 29 balls, which included three sixes and three fours. After this Smriti Mandhana took over the innings. He scored a brilliant 79 runs on 45 balls. His innings included seven sixes and five fours. During this innings, Mandhana crossed the mark of 11,000 runs in international cricket. She became the first female cricketer to achieve this feat.
Richa Ghosh's last overs were explosive
Smriti Mandhana was out for 163 runs in 16.5 overs. Because of this it became difficult for India to reach the 200-run mark. However, Richa Ghosh turned the tide of the match with her stormy batting in the last overs. Richa scored unbeaten 49 runs on just 22 balls. His innings included three sixes and six fours. India scored 25 runs in the last over and scored 216 runs in 20 overs.
Big shocks to Sri Lanka from the beginning
While chasing the big target of 217 runs, Sri Lanka faced big setbacks from the very beginning. Captain Chamari Atapattu and Imisha Dulani started the innings. However, she could score only 18 runs for the first wicket. After the important innings of 48 runs in batting, Shefali Verma also did wonders in bowling. He dismissed Imesha Dulani for 3 runs and Hasini Perera without opening the account in the powerplay. After this Deepti Sharma gave the biggest blow to Sri Lanka. He got captain Chamari Atapattu caught behind the wicket. Atapattu scored 21 runs in 21 balls. Sri Lanka's innings could not be sustained in the face of the tremendous attack by the Indian bowlers and the entire team was out for only 69 runs. India won big by 147 runs and won the gold medal in women's cricket at the Asian Games.
