Two-time Olympic champion Shawn Miller-Uibo has been appointed as the International Event Ambassador for Delhi Half Marathon 2026. This star sprinter from Bahamas will be a part of the 21st edition of this race to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 18.
West Indies star athlete Shaunae Miller-Uibo will compete in the event, which is one of India's premier long-distance races. Miller-Uibo, a successful 400 meter runner, will enter this race with her experience. This competition is attended by professional runners as well as many people who run for fitness and as a hobby.
Miller-Uibo is a two-time Olympic champion. She won the women's 400 meters race at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Games. With the win in Tokyo, she became the second woman after France's Marie-José Perec to successfully defend the Olympic 400m title. He set a North American record of 48.36 seconds in the final.
The World Championship career of this athlete from Bahamas has also been excellent. He won silver medals in the 400 meters in 2015 and 2019 and won the world title in Eugene in 2022. She also won a bronze medal in the 200 meters at the 2017 World Championships, and her personal best time of 21.74 seconds is a Bahamas national record.
Miller-Uibo started making her mark at the international level during her college days at the University of Georgia and won the 200m race at the Commonwealth Games 2018. Later, he also won the gold medal for Bahamas in the mixed 4×400 meter relay at the World Athletics Relays.
Regarding the India tour, Miller-Uibo said that this opportunity is more than just participating in a race. She said, “Running has taken me to many amazing places, but I'm so excited to be coming to India, and especially New Delhi, to be a part of a race that has such a deep connection to its community. The Delhi Half Marathon brings together people from different backgrounds, stories and abilities, united by the joy of running.”
She added, “After years of competing at the highest level, I know that progress comes one step at a time. I hope that my journey will inspire runners here to trust their process, be persistent and believe in their abilities. I look forward to sharing this experience with Delhi's runners and seeing everyone at the start line.”
