Delhi Metro Stations Closed For Cec Gyanesh Kumar Protest

In view of the protest by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and some student organizations against the Chief Election Commissioner at New Delhi's Jantar Mantar, Delhi Metro on Friday closed entry and exit at 11 metro stations including Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat and Patel Chowk located near Jantar Mantar.

In a post issued on 'X', Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said that entry and exit at Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Rajiv Chowk, Seva Tirtha, Mandi House, Lok Kalyan Marg, INA, Chawri Bazaar, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg and New Delhi stations will remain closed till further orders. However, DMRC said that interchange facility will be available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, New Delhi and Central Secretariat station.

Police, RAF personnel and anti-riot vehicles have been deployed at Jantar Mantar in view of the call for protests by activists, political leaders and civil society representatives opposing the 'Special Intensive Revision' (SIR) and demanding accountability from the country's Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and some student organizations are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision of Voter List (SIR) and alleged large-scale deletion of names of voters and have called for a demonstration at Jantar Mantar.

Aam Aadmi Party, Left party's student wing All India Students Association (AISA), Congress's National Students Union of India (NSUI) and Indian Youth Congress (IYC) are included in the call for this protest. Meanwhile, New Delhi DCP Sachin Sharma said, “Section 163 of BNSS is in force in New Delhi district. No kind of protest, march etc. has been allowed here. He said that security and safety arrangements have been made during the protest at Jantar Mantar and I would request everyone to follow the law…”.
