Bangladesh expressed hope that India will take prompt action on the extradition request of its former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In this case, legal process is necessary; But Bangladesh has said that political will is also needed to complete it. Meanwhile, during the 'Bay of Bengal Conversation', the Indian government has repeatedly clarified that the matter is part of an ongoing legal process and that process is still ongoing.
Responding to the Indian High Commissioner's statement, Bangladesh's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam told reporters that the legal process is certainly an important factor, but political will is also needed. He said, “We hope that the Indian government will focus on expediting the ongoing extradition process to bring back the accused. There must be political will in both the countries. We have it and India also needs to show it.”
Meanwhile, Bangladesh's visiting High Commissioner to India Mohammad Riyaz Hamidullah met Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Met Jaishankar. During this, many issues related to mutual interests of both the countries were discussed.
Talking about his 18-month tenure in India, Riaz Hamidullah said he left no stone unturned in taking India-Bangladesh relations forward on the basis of mutual trust, respect and shared interests.
