As the challenge of drone attacks is increasing for Pakistan's security system, Pakistan has made a strange plan to deal with it. It has come to light that fishing nets are being used to avoid drone attacks. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan, fishing nets are being installed at sensitive police and military posts to protect them from drones.
The net of this fishing net is placed a few meters high on the roof of the post. The net is extended from the roof of the post to the surrounding walls. Its purpose is to trap the propeller of the drone filled with explosives. Police claim that if the drone gets caught in the net, it can be stopped or deactivated. Local police officials have said that even if the drone does not get entangled in the net and explodes above the net, the damage can be reduced to some extent by spreading its pieces in the air instead of falling directly on the ground.
It is being said that Pakistan has adopted this method mainly because of its low cost. It costs about $1,400 to install such a net on one post, which is approximately Rs 1.30 lakh. In comparison, modern anti-drone systems can cost thousands to millions of dollars. Over the past few months, fishing nets have been reported to have been deployed at sensitive military and police posts in five districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan.
This step is being taken in view of increasing drone attacks on Pakistan security forces. On 16 April, a drone attack was carried out on a police post in Sarki Piala in Hangu district, bordering Afghanistan. After this the armed attackers started firing on the post. One person died and several others were injured in the attack. So far this year, there have been 16 attacks in Hangu district. As a result, security forces have begun imposing additional security measures at the post.
Pakistan has accused Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) of being behind these attacks. Pakistan Continues Afghan Pakistan Deploys 'Fishing Nets' to Catch Drones
The Taliban in Pakistan have been accusing the government of giving shelter to TTP. However, Kabul has denied these allegations. Meanwhile, tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan has also increased in recent times.
