This incident came to the notice of the CM through a post made on the social media platform 'X' by an organization called Jharkhand Janadhikar Mahasabha. After this, the Chief Minister gave strict instructions to Latehar Superintendent of Police and wrote that this situation is not acceptable.
It is alleged that Bariatu police station in-charge Prabhat Kumar Das and three other policemen took the woman with them. The woman has alleged assault, abuse and caste based abuses on the way. According to the villagers, the woman was also beaten up in the police station. He was allegedly hanged upside down with his hands tied and beaten with sticks. The woman has also accused the policemen of sexual misconduct.
It has also been alleged in the application that the policemen accused the woman of cultivating poppy and forcibly took Rs 80,000 kept in the house for the wedding. The woman is said to be released from the police station the next night. These allegations have not been independently verified.
In protest against the incident, the villagers reached Latehar Superintendent of Police office and gave a written complaint demanding action against the concerned policemen. After the matter came to light, the Chief Minister directed the police administration to investigate.
Latehar police administration has constituted an investigation team under the leadership of Balumath sub-divisional police officer and a woman police officer to investigate the case. Jharkhand Janadhikar Mahasabha and local tribal organizations have demanded suspension of the accused policemen and registration of an FIR under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. At present, the investigation into the allegations made in the case is going on.
