PM Modi inaugurates Chennai Metro Phase-2, travels with CM Vijay

Prime Minister Modi is on a visit to Chennai today. He inaugurated the 14.6 km long Poonamallee-Vadapalani section of the Chennai Metro Phase-2 project.

After this the Prime Minister himself traveled by train. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay was also present on this occasion. After this, Modi will travel by train on the same route from Poonamallee to Porur.

Before the tour, flying of drones has been banned in many areas. The Greater Chennai Police has declared areas around Meenambakkam, Guindy, Kotturpuram, Porur and Nandambakkam as red zones. This is Prime Minister Modi's first visit to Chennai after the 2026 assembly elections.

Worship in the temple of IIT-Madras campus

PM Modi offered prayers at the Sri Jalakanteshwara Swamy Temple on the IIT-Madras campus in Chennai. Tamil Nadu Governor Arlekar and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay were also present with him. Traditional music was played to welcome the Prime Minister in the temple.
