Congress's post demanding resignation of Chief Justice in controversy

After the statement of Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant regarding restrictions on protests in Delhi, a post made on social media by the Kerala branch of Congress has been embroiled in controversy. It was said in this post that the Chief Justice should resign. After criticism from BJP and lawyers' organizations on this post, Congress has deleted it and made it clear that the person responsible for the post has been removed from the post.

Speaking about the protests and restrictions in Delhi, Chief Justice Surya Kant had said, “This is a matter of law and order. It is not a matter of my jurisdiction.” He also made it clear that it would not be appropriate to meet the leaders of opposition parties separately as cases are pending in the Supreme Court on the issue of Special In-Depth Review (SIR) of Voter Roll.

After this, a post was made on the official social media account of the Kerala branch of Congress demanding the resignation of the Chief Justice. The post read, “If maintaining law and order is not your job, then resign now. We will find a successor who can handle this responsibility.” The post was removed after criticism. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President Sunny Joseph said that the post was made without the knowledge and approval of the senior leadership of the party. He also clarified that the person concerned has been absolved of responsibility. He said that Congress has no doubt on the impartiality of the Judiciary.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized the Congress on the matter. He accused the Congress of trying to weaken constitutional institutions. On the other hand, the Supreme Court Bar Association also condemned the post demanding the resignation of the Chief Justice. The organization said that complaints related to the judiciary should be raised through correct legal and constitutional means.
