A deeply saddening and shocking news has emerged from Nagpur, Maharashtra. Aditi Chaukhande, a 17-year-old budding female cricketer, committed suicide by hanging herself. Upon receiving information about the incident, police arrived at the scene, took custody of the body, and sent it for a post-mortem. Police also recovered an emotional suicide note at the scene, which brought tears to everyone’s eyes. This tragic incident has left the sports world and the deceased’s family in mourning.
Aditi was a resident of Akola and was pursuing professional training in Nagpur.
According to investigating officials, Aditi Chaukhande was originally from Akola district, Maharashtra. She had been living with her mother on rent in Umalaxmi Apartments in the Laxmi Nagar area of Nagpur for the past two years. Aditi had been regularly training at Nagpur’s renowned Surve Cricket Academy and dreamed of playing at the national level in the future. However, she was not selected in the recent Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) trials, after which she was suffering from severe mental stress and depression.
Had dinner with her mother the night before, her body was found hanging in her room the next morning.
This tragic incident occurred in the Bajaj Nagar police station area of Nagpur. Police said that on Wednesday night, Aditi had dinner with her mother as usual and then went to sleep in her room. When the door to the room remained open for a long time on Thursday morning, her mother went inside and found Aditi’s body hanging from a noose. Police arrived at the scene and found a suicide note with a single, heartbreaking line: “I was not selected.”
The family had a deep connection to sports; police are conducting a thorough investigation.
Aditi’s father is a civil contractor in Akola, while her elder brother, Prabal Chaukhande, is also a budding cricketer. Her brother was out of town at the time of the incident. The entire family hoped that Aditi would one day achieve great success through her hard work. Senior Inspector Chetan Chauhan of the Bajaj Nagar police station said that preliminary investigations suggest mental stress due to failure to qualify for the job may have been the cause of suicide. However, the police are investigating the case thoroughly from every angle.
