2 Singapore Airlines flights to Thailand delayed for 4-6 hours after technical issues

Two Singapore Airlines flights from Singapore to Thailand were delayed for four and six hours each on Aug. 15 due to technical issues with the aircraft.

The Boeing 787-10 scheduled for SQ710 flight to Bangkok with 272 passengers on board developed an issue with its air-conditioning system while on the ground, The Straits Times reported.

The flight was due to depart Changi Airport at 12:45 p.m. but only took off at 4:49 p.m., after engineers required additional time to address the problem.

Passengers were moved to another aircraft before departure.

The Boeing 737-8 aircraft assigned to operate SQ732 flight to Phuket with 117 passengers on board also encountered a technical problem while on the ground. The issue involved a wing slat, a movable panel on the leading edge of an aircraft’s wing, The Star newspaper reported.

The Phuket-bound service was scheduled to leave at 1:15 p.m. but departed at 7:46 p.m., more than six hours later. It reached Phuket at 8:32 p.m. local time.

The carrier apologized for the inconvenience, reiterating that the safety of its passengers and crew remained its top priority.

The incidents followed another technical disruption involving the airline on Aug. 12, when a New York-bound Singapore Airlines flight returned to Changi Airport shortly after take-off because of a problem with its hydraulics system.
