20 rebel TMC MPs will join the party with 0 MLAs and MPs.
Trinamool Congress rebel Kakoli Ghosh Dastikar met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Sunday. After the meeting he told the media that he had asked for his own separate seating area. Apart from this, we are merging All India Trinamool Congress with Nationalist Citizens Party (NCP).
Will work together for NDA: Kakoli Ghosh
Kakoli Ghosh said that we 20 MPs elected from TMC met the Speaker and submitted a letter requesting to sit separately. These 20 MPs are more than two-thirds of our total number. We are merging with the Nationalist Citizens Party. Going forward, we will work for the country and work together with the NDA led by the Prime Minister.
Will demand Trinamool’s name in July: Rebel Sudeep Bandopadhyay
Rebel MP Sudeep Bandopadhyay said that we will merge with the Nationalist Citizens Party. It is a regional party. This is the rule. When you are at odds with two-thirds of the party members, you cannot demand the name of that party on the very first day. In July we will demand Trinamool’s name for ourselves, because we have two-third majority in Trinamool. After this the court will decide.

He said that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla confirmed all the signatures. There were a total of 20 signatures. This is two thirds. When he was asked about Kirti Azad and Shatrughan Sinha, Sudeep said that the people of Bihar support the party of Bengal more.
Meeting at Mamata’s residence in Kolkata
On the other hand, political activity has increased in Kolkata amid the meeting of rebel MPs in Delhi with the Lok Sabha Speaker. A big meeting of party leaders was called at Mamata Banerjee’s residence. TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh, Sovandeb Chattopadhyay and MP Kalyan Banerjee came out of Mamata Banerjee’s residence. Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien has reached Mamata Banerjee’s residence.
The biggest political crisis facing TMC
Nationalist Citizens Party is a regional party in Tripura. At present the number of MLAs and MPs of the party is zero. However, after the merger the number of MPs increased to 20. TMC had won 28 seats in the Lok Sabha elections 2024. 20 MPs rebelled after the assembly elections. Amidst several days of political turmoil, rebel MPs on Sunday announced their merger with NCP.

TMC is also facing rebellion in the state assembly. 64 out of 80 MLAs have formed a separate faction. Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose has chosen MLA Ritabrata Banerjee, who leads the rebel group, as the leader of the opposition. However, TMC has challenged his decision in the Calcutta High Court.
