‘We don’t have money, we have our own expenses…’ Shahbaz government gave a blow to Pak players
Pakistan’s hockey players were seen wandering on the streets in Australia earlier this year. In Australia, he was made to clean the kitchen, utensils, clothes and even the bathroom. This was revealed by Pakistan’s hockey captain Imad Butt himself. After his revelations, there was a stir in the Pakistani sports world. There was a lot of discussion for the betterment of the players but the situation still remains the same.
Now Pakistani tennis players have been told that if they want to participate in the Asian Games to be held in Japan this year, they will have to bear the expenses themselves. Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) has clearly told the players that they will have to bear the daily expenses including flight tickets. The Federation told the players that no funds are received for the Asian Games from Pakistan Sports Board (PSB). It is known that PSB is operated by the Government of Pakistan.

‘Trials have been done, that’s enough…’
During the ongoing two-day National Trials in Lahore, when some players sought information from the Federation officials regarding their daily allowance and traveling allowance, they came to know that no money would be received from the government for the Asian Games. One player said, ‘We have been told that we will not get any payment for taking part in the trials. Apart from this, the players selected for the Asian Games will have to make their own arrangements for their air tickets and expenses of $50 per day.
The TT player also said that when the players objected to the decision, a senior PTTF official said that they should be happy that the trials are being conducted without any funding from the PSB. The player said, ‘We were told that PTTF does not receive any funds from PSB even for the Asian Games. This is a worrying situation for the development of sports.

It is noteworthy that Pakistan has not yet won any medal in table tennis in the Asian Games or Asian Championships. The main reason for this is that Malaysia, China, South Korea and India have dominance in this game.
