2020 Delhi riots: Court’s verdict in IB officer Ankit Sharma murder case to come on June 11
Karkardooma Court will give its verdict on June 11 in the much talked about case related to the murder of IB officer Ankit Sharma during the Delhi riots. Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Singh reserved the decision after completion of arguments of both the parties on Thursday and fixed the date of judgement. A total of 11 accused, including former Aam Aadmi Party councilor Tahir Hussain, are facing trial in this case.
Ankit Sharma’s body was found in the drain
This case is based on the FIR lodged at Dayalpur police station, which was registered on the complaint of Ankit Sharma’s father Ravinder Kumar. According to the complaint, after returning home from duty on 25 February 2020, Ankit Sharma went out again, but did not return. Later the family got information about his murder.
During the investigation, the police recovered the body of Ankit Sharma from a drain near Chand Bagh Pulia at Khajuri Khas. The prosecution alleges that Tahir Hussain and other accused together conspired to commit murder and carried out the crime.
Charges were framed under serious sections
On March 24, 2023, the court had framed charges against all the accused under several serious sections including rioting, rioting with deadly weapons, murder, criminal conspiracy. Tahir Hussain has also been slapped with additional charges related to alleged incitement and spreading public disturbance.
It is noteworthy that in February 2020, 53 people lost their lives in the communal riots in North-East Delhi. Now the court’s verdict in this famous murder case is going to come on June 11, on which everyone’s eyes are fixed.
