2026 Yezdi Scrambler To Get A New Engine

Classic Legends is set to launch a heavily updated Yezdi Scrambler today. We are at the launch venue and have learnt an important detail about the upcoming motorcycle, which at the time of writing, is still kept under a veil. The new Yezdi Scrambler will get a ‘new engine’. It will be marginally more powerful than the Alpha 2 of the previous model.

Classic Legends first launched the Yezdi Scrambler in January 2022. The ex-showroom prices were in the range of Rs 2.05 lakh and Rs 2.11 lakh, at launch. Over the years, several updates were introduced on it.

Doing duty on this motorcycle was a 334cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, capable of producing 29.1 hp and 28.2 Nm.

The new bike will get what Classic Legends calls the ‘Katar’ (pronounced as kah-taa) engine. It is on display at the launch venue. The name draws inspiration from ‘Katar’- the ancient Indian push dagger with an H-shaped horizontal grip. This weapon was powerful but sleek. More importantly, it was appreciated for its compact proportions and precision. The new engine is expected to be lightweight and compact. These characteristics may have led to naming it Katar.

The bikemaker hasn’t specified the displacement of this engine, but has given out its power and torque figures. The Katar engine will male 30PS (29.5 hp) and 30 Nm. Power output has had a marginal increase while torque has gone up by 1.8Nm.

The new engine weighs just 40.8 kilograms and measures 348mm, 371mm, and 480mm in length, width and height. Quite compact and lightweight. The company also claims this engine to have a fuel efficiency of 30 kpl.

This engine is also expected to see major improvements in refinement, enhancing the overall riding experience. It will come paired with a six-speed gearbox. The Katar engine will eventually be introduced on other Jawa and Yezdi models as well.

Most importantly, the new Scrambler is expected to be significantly lighter than the previous model. The predecessor weighs 182 kilograms. Many see this as a major drawback of the current model. The kerb weight of the new model is expected to surface soon. It could roughly be 8-10 kilos lighter. In that case, the overall riding experience will see major improvements. The bike will feel much easier to handle in city traffic and more manageable on rough terrains.

The updated model is also expected to get a bunch of design changes. It is likely to get subtle changes in styling rather than a complete overhaul. Minor changes to body panels, trims and detailing are expected. Overall, the new Scrambler would look more premium. Classic Legends could also introduce new colour options. These will likely make the design more appealing to younger buyers.

On the equipment front, the updated Scrambler will likely see the addition of switchable traction control, more electronics, rider aids, and a more advanced LCD display. These additions will make the Scrambler more relevant in its segment.

In the Indian market, the Yezdi Scrambler competes primarily with Royal Enfields. RE has lately been quite aggressive with its product push. Models like the Triumph Scrambler 350 (400) is also one of its rivals. Pricing will be critical in defining the Yezdi Scrambler’s success here.
