Tezzbuzz Desk – The massive flood that occurred in Nepal on Wednesday has caused huge devastation. A large number of people are stranded in flood affected areas, while many people are still unaccounted for. This natural disaster has also affected Indian citizens visiting Nepal for work. Meanwhile, the Indian government has intensified relief and rescue operations.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that 21 Indian citizens who reached Kathmandu from the flood affected area have now reached Delhi. All of them are residents of Tamil Nadu and have been brought to Delhi by Indigo flight.
63 Indians have already been evacuated safely
Randhir Jaiswal said that 63 Indian citizens working in Trishuli One Hydropower Project have also been evacuated safely. Apart from this, 96 Indian citizens stranded on the Chinese side have safely reached Nepal by land route. Efforts are being made to evacuate them also from there.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, relief and rescue operations are continuing and efforts are being made to establish contact with Indians stranded at different places.
320 people still missing
Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that at present about 320 people cannot be contacted or are missing. Different lists are being matched, after which changes in the figures are possible.
He told that there are about 100 people of Indian origin who are not able to be contacted. It is believed that some of these people may have gone on Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and have second citizenship.
The control room of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs is working 24 hours. The control rooms of the Indian embassies in Kathmandu and Beijing are also monitoring the situation.
400 Indians safe in China
Randhir Jaiswal said that China is getting closer 400 Indian citizens are present and they are safe. They are in touch with their families. The Indian Embassy is in touch with them as well as their team leaders and travel agents.
Foreign Minister Jaishankar met the rescued Indians
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar also met the Indian citizens who were rescued and brought to Kathmandu safely after the floods during the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
He told that the Nepali Army evacuated these people safely and the Indian Embassy made arrangements for their return to India. According to Jaishankar, more than 85 Indians have been rescued from different places.
Expert team will be sent to hydropower project
The Foreign Minister said that there is a possibility of some people being trapped in the tunnel of a hydroelectric project. In view of this, a team of experts is being sent.
He said that bailey bridge, medical team and NDRF can also be sent as per requirement. Two planes have already been sent with relief material, while the third plane is also being sent.
Amidst the ongoing floods in Nepal, the Indian government is continuously engaged in evacuating its citizens and cooperating in relief operations.
