24 medicines banned in Rajasthan after Kota hospital deaths
The painful death of two women after caesarean delivery in Kota Medical College and the serious condition of many patients has brought the Rajasthan government into action. A comprehensive investigation has intensified amid serious allegations of negligence in health services.
Taking precaution, the Drug Control Department has immediately banned 24 medicines and medical devices statewide. This includes materials used after surgery and delivery like injections, glucose bottles, IV sets, syringes, catheters.
Drug Controller Ajay Phatak has given strict instructions to Rajasthan Medical Services Corporation and medicine distributors. Use or distribution of samples sent for testing is completely stopped. Their use is prohibited in government hospitals till the test report.
Of these, 15 materials were supplied by RMSCL to Kota, the remaining nine were purchased locally. Lab testing of all samples is underway, supply suspended.
After public outrage, the medical department ordered a high-level investigation. The initial report revealed the negligence of the staff. Dr. Shraddha Upadhyay was removed from service. Two nurses and Dr. Navneet Kumar of the surgery department suspended. Notice to ward incharge.
This action will ensure the safety of patients. There will be more revelations as the investigation progresses, hope for improvement in the health system.
