3 die, 5 injured in lightning strikes in Odisha

At least three persons including two women died while five others sustained critical injuries after being struck by lightning in three separate places of Odisha today.

Bhubaneswar: At least three persons including two women died while five others sustained critical injuries after being struck by lightning in three separate places of Odisha today.

In the first incident, a farmer named Matae Marij was killed and three others, including a minor girl, were injured after lightning struck them at Nathapasi village under Palalahada police limits of Anugola district.

The unfortunate incident occurred while they were working in an agricultural field along with others. Police seized Marij’s body and sent it for postmortem while the injured persons were also admitted at a nearby hospital for treatment.

Likewise, one woman was killed while another was injured following lightning strike at Tandipur village under Patrapur block in Ganjam district. The mishap occurred while the duo was returning home from the paddy field.

The deceased has been identified as Kunti Sethi of Tandipur village and the injured as Jhulan Behera. Police seized Kunti’s body for postmortem. Jhulan was also rushed to the Patrapur Community Health Centre (CHC) for medication.

In the third such incident, one Tiki Mallick of Garadpur village in Kendrapada district died on the spot while lightning struck her while working on the paddy field along with others. Another woman was also injured following the lightning strikes in the locality.
