Rumours about the return of 3 Idiots to cinemas had created confusion among fans, but the makers had later clarified that the reports were incorrect.
The production house behind the Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi starrer had issued a statement denying claims that the 2009 film was set for a theatrical re-release on September 4.
3 Idiots makers Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films had shared a clarification on social media. The production house stated, “With reference to recent media reports claiming that 3 Idiots will be re-released on 4th September, Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films would like to clarify that these reports are false and factually incorrect.”
The production house had also requested fans and media outlets to follow official updates only. It added, “We request members of the media and fans to rely solely on official announcements made through Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films’ verified channels.”
The speculation had started after reports claimed that the popular film would return to theatres. The rumours had also gained attention amid discussions related to the film’s connection with educationist Sonam Wangchuk.
Earlier, actor Aamir Khan had clarified that 3 Idiots was not based on Sonam Wangchuk’s life. During an event, he had said, “No, that is not true actually. That is a misconception.”
Aamir had explained that he and the film’s writers, Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi, did not know about Wangchuk while working on the movie. He had added that Wangchuk’s work was valuable regardless of any connection with the film.
Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, 3 Idiots had featured Kareena Kapoor Khan, Boman Irani and Mona Singh along with its lead cast. The film had focused on student life, friendships and challenges within the education system.
