Khamenei’s funeral is set to become the most expensive funeral ever.
Khamenei’s state funeral began in Tehran on Saturday. It will then pass through the cities of Qom, Najaf and Karbala in Iraq and end in Mashhad. He will be buried on Thursday. It is estimated that 2 crore people can attend here on the last day. All preparations have been made for that purpose. Thousands of buses, air services, cooking facilities, shelters have been prepared for transportation. Of course, the death of a great leader in a funeral is nothing new in the history of Iran. In 2020, at least 56 people were killed and more than 200 injured in the funeral of IRGC commander Qasem Soleimani in Kerman. Ruhullah Khomeini’s funeral in 1989 was also marred by chaos, resulting in at least eight deaths and hundreds of injuries.
