37% of entry-level jobs in India go to AI; Key findings from the Cognizant-Pearson study
A joint study by Cognizant and Pearson has revealed that artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing the nature of employment in India. According to the report ‘AI Workforce Pulse: The Adaptability Imperative’, about 37 percent of entry-level jobs in India are already being done with the help of AI, while the global average is 33 percent. The study was based on a survey of 750 HR leaders in the US, UK and India.

According to the study, the role of entry-level employees in the future will not be limited to getting work done. They will be expected to monitor AI systems, verify their findings, analyze decisions and make final decisions using human discretion. As many as 96 percent of HR leaders are of the opinion that such roles will increase in the next five years.
Another key point in the report is the growing importance of interpersonal and interdisciplinary skills. Soft skills such as adaptability, problem-solving ability and effective communication are becoming more essential now than ever before, according to 97 percent of HR professionals. The findings also revealed that candidates with broad knowledge and understanding of various subjects are preferred by many institutions.
While the demand for AI skills is growing rapidly, the report notes that many companies are still lagging behind in terms of training. Although employee demand for AI training has grown significantly over the past year, nearly 60 percent of organizations are struggling to keep up with the pace of technological change in their training programs. However, it was observed that India is ahead of the US in this regard, with 63 percent of Indian companies giving time to employees for AI training.
The report says that the role of middle managers will also be very important in these changes. According to nearly 95 percent of HR leaders, the role of managers will be critical in getting employees to use AI effectively and adapt them to changing responsibilities.
Rajesh Warrier, president-global operations and chairman and managing director, Cognizant India, said AI adoption is accelerating in India and early-career employees need to be ready to work with AI and focus on more value-added tasks. It will require extensive reskilling and development of management skills.

Cathy Diaz, Chief People Officer, Cognizant, also opined that AI literacy alongside traditional skills and the ability to continuously acquire new skills will be key to future success in a changing job market. Pearson’s Chief Human Resources Officer Ali Bebo also noted that organizations that effectively collaborate with humans and AI will be more successful in the future.
