5 big good news for electricity consumers in UP, tension gone!

Lucknow. The government has taken a decision that will provide great relief to the electricity consumers of Uttar Pradesh. In view of the continuous complaints related to smart meters and electricity bills, the Energy Department has announced the implementation of a new system. Now special camps and help centers will be set up across the state to solve the problems of consumers.

Energy Minister AK Sharma said that from May 15 to June 30, special camps will be organized at the offices of the Executive Engineer and Subdivision Officer. In these camps, problems related to electricity bills, smart meters, readings and connections of consumers will be solved on the spot.

Help will also be available on 1912 helpline

The government has also decided to strengthen the 1912 helpline for the convenience of electricity consumers. Consumers will be able to register their complaints through phone and get information related to electricity bill. Apart from this, WhatsApp numbers have also been issued for different Discom areas, where consumers can get electricity bills by sending their connection number.

Smart prepaid meter system ended

The state government has taken a big decision regarding smart prepaid meter and announced its abolition. In view of the technical problems and consumer complaints, now all smart meters will be operated in postpaid mode. Following the instructions of the government, more than 83 lakh smart prepaid meters installed so far will also be converted into postpaid mode. Now new electricity connections will also be given only through smart postpaid meters.

Now you will get regular bill every month

Under the new system, the bill for the electricity used in the month of May will be sent to the consumers through SMS or WhatsApp by June 10. Consumers will get 15 days to deposit the bill. If the bill is not deposited within the stipulated time, action can be taken to disconnect the electricity connection within the next seven days. The electricity department has also clarified that if automatic reading is not available, the bill will be issued on the basis of manual reading.

Installment facility to pay outstanding bills

The government has also given relief to consumers with old outstanding bills. Domestic consumers will be able to pay the outstanding bills till April 30 in 10 installments, while other category consumers will get the facility of payment in three installments. The Energy Department says that the objective of the new system is to reduce the problems of consumers and to make electricity services more transparent and easier.
