6 out of 12 semiconductor projects in the country are in Gujarat: Arjunbhai Modhwadia, watch video

  • The Union Cabinet of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved two new semiconductor projects in Gujarat.

Gandhinagar, May 9, 2026 – country’s State Science and Technology Minister Mr. Arjunbhai Modhwadia has said that out of 12 semiconductor projects, 6 projects will be in Gujarat. Through a video message he said that, under the able leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Central Government’sIndia Semiconductor Mission‘Under this, Gujarat is today becoming the center of chip manufacturing in the country.

In the recently held Union Cabinet meeting, Rs. 2 more rupees were approved for Gujarat under India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). Approval of new state-of-the-art semiconductor projects worth Rs 3,936 crore has provided a major boost to the state towards becoming an integral part of the semiconductor ecosystem and a ‘Silicon State’. In both these projects, Crystal Matrix Limited in Dholera SIR has invested Rs. 3,068 crore and Surat-listed Semicon Private Limited (SSPL) for Rs. An investment of Rs 868 crore will be made, which will prove to be a new milestone in the industrial development of the state, Arjunbhai Modhwadia had added.

Four big projects worth Rs 1.24 lakh crore are taking shape. Apart from this, two more semiconductor projects will be built in Gujarat. To accelerate this ecosystem, ‘Gujarat State Electronics Mission’-GSEM is acting as a single window facilitator, which makes the administrative processes easier for investors.

abundant employment opportunities

Welcoming this approval given by the Government of India, the Minister had said that Gujarat had taken a unique initiative in this field by announcing the country’s first semiconductor policy. As a result, out of the total 12 semiconductor projects approved under the India Semiconductor Mission, 06 projects have come to Gujarat and maximum work is being done in this sector in the state. From these new 2 projects only Rs. Not only an investment of Rs 3,936 crore, but more than 2,230 youth will get high technical employment and thousands of indirect employment opportunities will also be created.

With this decision of the Government of India, the entire value chain from chip designing to fabrication and packaging has been strengthened in Gujarat. Gujarat State Electronics Mission (GSEM) is committed to timely operationalize the projects by providing full support to both the companies in terms of land, water, electricity and other infrastructure facilities, the minister also added.

Giving detailed information about these two semiconductor projects approved by the Union Cabinet in Gujarat, Minister Mr. Arjunbhai Modhwadia had said that, Dholera Special Investment Region has now joined the ranks of the world’s most advanced chip manufacturing centers. Dholera SIR by Crystal Matrix Limited at Rs. The country’s first compound semiconductor fabrication facility will be set up with an investment of Rs 3,068 crore.

Regarding the features of this plant, the Minister had added that, the facility to be set up by Crystal Matrix will produce mini/micro-LED displays based on Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology. Which till now was only imported. The facility will annually produce 72,000 square meters of display panels and 24,000 sets of RGB wafers. Using these mini/micro-LED displays being manufactured in Dholera, smartphones, electric vehicle dashboards and high-end TV screens will be equipped with ‘Made in Gujarat’ chips in the future.

Production of high-tech semiconductor chips

Apart from this, Surat city, known for diamond and textile industries, will now also produce high-tech semiconductor chips. Suchi Semicon Private Limited (SSPL) has invested Rs. Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility will be set up in Surat at a cost of Rs 868 crore. In which, more than 103.03 crore chips will be produced annually. He also added that these chips will be helpful in meeting the demand of automobile and industrial automation sectors.
