Now BJP rule in West Bengal: Shubhendu Adhikari became the new Chief Minister, 5 other MLAs also took oath as ministers.

Kolkata, 9 May. For the first time in the political history of the country’s eastern state of West Bengal, the reign of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) began on Saturday, when Shubhendu Adhikari, the leader of the party which ended the decade-and-a-half-old empire of Trinamool Congress (TMC) with a bumper majority in the assembly elections, took oath as the ninth Chief Minister of the state.

Governor R.N. at the grand swearing-in ceremony held at the Brigade Parade Ground in Central Kolkata. Ravi administered the oath of office and secrecy to Subhendu Adhikari. Shubhendu had defeated former CM Mamata Banerjee in Bhawanipur. As per protocol, Mamata Banerjee was also sent an invitation for the swearing-in ceremony. But she did not come.

Along with Shubhendu, these 5 MLAs also took oath

Along with 55-year-old Shubhendu, a resident of Purba Medinipur, who was once a minister in the Mamta government before joining BJP, five other MLAs also took oath as ministers, including Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Nisith Pramanik, Khudiram Tudu and Ashok Kirtania.

Veteran leaders of NDA including PM Modi were present.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself also attended the oath ceremony. Apart from him, many prominent leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President Nitin Naveen, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also took part in the ceremony.

It is noteworthy that Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was appointed as the central observer by the party, had announced the name of Shubhendu Adhikari as the leader of the legislature party in the West Bengal BJP Legislature Party meeting here on Friday. After this, Shubhendu met Governor Ravi and submitted a letter of support from the MLAs and staked claim to form a new government.

Remember that in the assembly elections, out of 293 seats in the state except one (Falta), BJP had registered a landslide victory on 207 seats. At the same time, TMC was reduced to just 80 seats and its rule of 15 years came to an end.
