6 Recently Launched Mid-Size SUVs Ranked By Safety Ratings: Maruti Victoris To Tata Sierra
The mid-size SUV segment in India has become stronger than it has ever been after the launch of a number of new models. These include the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, and three others. What is more impressive is that all 6 of these SUVs are five-star safety-rated cars. And today, we will provide you with the ranked list of all these safe SUVs currently available on sale in India.
We are sure that you would not have imagined a Maruti Suzuki SUV topping the list of safest cars on sale, right? Well, things have changed after the Victoris managed to score a perfect five-star safety rating in the Global NCAP. It scored 33.72 out of 34 in adult occupant protection tests and 41 out of 49 in the child occupant protection tests.
In the frontal offset test, it scored 15.807 out of 16; in the side impact test, it scored 15.913 out of 16. Also, the driver’s head, neck, pelvis, and thighs had good protection, and the chest and right tibia had adequate protection. The co-driver results were that all critical parts had good protection, and the bodyshell integrity was stable.
Coming to the child safety, the dynamic score was 24 out of 24, CRS installation was 12 out of 12, and the vehicle assessment score was 5 out of 13. The safety features of the Victoris include 6 airbags (standard), ESC, traction control, hill hold assist, ISOFIX mounts, ABS with EBD, and 3-point seatbelts for all. It also gets rear parking sensors, and higher variants come with a 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake, and Level 2 ADAS as well. The Victoris is priced at Rs 10.50 to Rs 19.99 lakh.

Next on the list is the Kia Seltos, which has secured a five-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP. The Seltos scored 31.70 out of 32 in adult occupant protection and 45 out of 49 in child occupant protection tests. Notably, this is the highest adult occupant protection score among ICE-powered vehicles tested by BNCAP so far.
In the frontal offset test, it scored 15.70 out of 16, and in the side impact test, it scored a perfect 16 out of 16. The driver’s head, chest, pelvis, and thighs received good protection. However, the feet and left tibia were rated adequate. For the co-driver, all critical parts received good protection. In the side pole impact test as well, all critical areas were rated good.
Coming to child safety, it scored a perfect 24 out of 24 in dynamic tests and 12 out of 12 in CRS installation. The vehicle assessment score was 9 out of 13. The safety features include 6 airbags as standard, ESC, stability control, hill start assist, TPMS, rearview camera, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX mounts, and all-wheel disc brakes. It also gets downhill brake control and rear occupant alert. The Kia Seltos facelift is priced between Rs 10.99 lakh and Rs 19.99 lakh.

Next up is the Tata Sierra, which has also received a five-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP. It scored 31.14 out of 32 in adult occupant protection and 44.73 out of 49 in child occupant protection tests. The ratings are applicable across all variants.
In the frontal offset test, it scored 15.14 out of 16, and in the side impact test, it scored a perfect 16 out of 16. The driver’s head, neck, pelvis, and thighs received good protection, while the chest and tibia were rated adequate. The co-driver protection was mostly good across all critical areas. In both side impact and pole tests, protection remained good.
For child safety, it scored 23.73 out of 24 in dynamic tests and 12 out of 12 in CRS installation, while the vehicle assessment score stood at 9 out of 13. The Sierra comes equipped with 6 airbags as standard, all-wheel disc brakes, traction control, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors. Higher variants also offer a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitor, and Level 2 ADAS. The Tata Sierra is priced from Rs 11.49 lakh to Rs 21.29 lakh.

Next on the list is the Renault Duster which has secured a five star safety rating in Bharat NCAP. It scored 30.49 out of 32 in adult occupant protection and 45 out of 49 in child occupant protection tests.
In the frontal offset test it scored 14.49 out of 16 and in the side impact test it scored a perfect 16 out of 16. The driver’s head, neck, pelvis and thighs received good protection while the chest and tibia were rated adequate. For the co-driver, all critical areas including the chest and lower legs received good protection. In the side pole impact test, the Duster was rated OK.
Coming to the child safety, it scored a perfect 24 out of 24 in dynamic tests and 12 out of 12 in CRS installation, while the vehicle assessment score stood at 9 out of 13. The Duster provided full protection to both 18 month old and 3 year old child dummies in frontal and side crash tests.
The safety features of the Renault Duster include 6 airbags, electronic stability program, hill hold control, hill descent control, tyre pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX mounts and 3 point seatbelts for all occupants. The top variants also get ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, collision detection with auto emergency braking, lane keep assist and blind spot monitoring. The Renault Duster is priced from Rs 10.49 lakh to Rs 18.49 lakh.

Now coming to the Volkswagen Taigun facelift, which has also secured a five-star safety rating in Global NCAP. In the Global NCAP, it scored 29.64 out of 34 and 42 out of 49 in adult and child occupant protection tests. As for the Bharat NCAP, it scored 30.88 out of 32 and 45 out of 49 in adult and child occupant protection tests, respectively.
Built on the MQB A0 IN platform, the Taigun offers strong structural integrity and a stable bodyshell. In crash tests, the driver’s chest protection was rated adequate, while the passenger chest had good protection. Knee protection for both occupants was rated good.
The safety features include 6 airbags, ESC, ABS with EBD, traction control, hill hold control, multi-collision braking, brake disc wiping, and ISOFIX mounts. It also gets all-wheel disc brakes in GT variants, an auto-dimming IRVM, and front and rear parking sensors. Additionally, it offers Autonomous Emergency Braking, which is a major highlight. However, it misses out on a full ADAS suite and a 360-degree camera. Pricing of the Taigun facelift starts at Rs 10.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 19.3 lakh.

The Skoda Kushaq facelift also continues with its five-star Global NCAP safety rating. It is built on the same MQB A0 IN platform as the Taigun, which means it has also scored the exact same ratings in both.
With the facelift, Skoda has made 6 airbags standard across all variants. It also gets ESC as standard along with ABS with EBD, traction control, and brake disc wiping. Other safety features include rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, an auto-dimming IRVM, and ISOFIX mounts. Top variants also get all-wheel disc brakes.
Although it does not get ADAS features, it still offers over 40 active and passive safety features, which makes it one of the safest SUVs in the segment. Pricing of the Kushaq facelift starts at Rs 10.69 lakh and goes up to Rs 18.99 lakh.
