Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh has appealed to people to be cautious instead of panicking. He said that from January to July, the cases of swine flu were limited to one digit, but the number of cases has suddenly increased in the month of August.

Dr. According to Balbir Singh, none of the patients who have come forward so far have needed to be admitted to the hospital and they have been sent home after a health check-up. He said that due to high humidity in the environment at this time, the possibility of spreading viral infections increases.

The Health Minister said that government hospitals and health centers have adequate facilities for swine flu testing and treatment. Also, pregnant women, elderly, people with low immunity and people suffering from any disease have been advised to take special precautions and avoid crowded places.

Swine flu is an infectious respiratory disease caused by the influenza virus. H1N1 is the predominant form of this virus. It can spread from person to person mainly through respiratory droplets produced when coughing, sneezing or talking. With timely recognition and appropriate treatment, most patients recover.

The main symptoms of swine flu/influenza include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, headache, body aches and fatigue. If such symptoms appear, instead of panicking, one should seek medical advice.

Cover your mouth and nose with a handkerchief or tissue when you cough or sneeze, wash your hands frequently with soap, avoid going to crowded places and stay at home if you are sick and maintain proper distance from others. Touching the eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands should also be avoided.
