8,500 people join CapitaLand campaign to support vulnerable children

The fourth edition of CapitaLand Development’s (CLD) “Together We Step: Step For Kindness” campaign concluded after participants surpassed the target of 490 million steps.

The achievement unlocked a $98,000 donation from CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF), the philanthropic arm of CapitaLand Group, to Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation.

The four-month campaign combined an online walking challenge with an outdoor community event at Ocean City in Hung Yen on Oct. 4.

The donation is the final tranche of CHF’s three-year commitment of up to $270,000 to support vulnerable children and youth in Vietnam through education, vocational training, life skills and leadership development.

Across four editions, Step For Kindness has involved CLD employees, residents, business partners and members of the public.

Since 2024, CHF has worked with Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation to fund programs supporting children and young people facing difficult circumstances.

According to CLD, the partnership has helped more than 200 children and young people remain in formal education and supported more than 20 in vocational training. More than 70 children and youth have also taken part in over 20 skills development sessions.

Volunteer-led activities in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have covered languages, arts, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), social and emotional learning, leadership and career orientation.

One beneficiary, Thao, 22, began rebuilding her life after being rescued from exploitation two years ago. Through counseling and vocational training, she developed an interest in becoming a barista. She is continuing her training while working toward greater financial stability and independence.

“Every step taken through Step For Kindness created opportunities for vulnerable children and youth. We are grateful to everyone who came together behind this cause and made this milestone possible,” said Tan Tze Wooi, CEO of CapitaLand Development (Vietnam).

“Our collective effort shows how small actions can make a meaningful difference when people unite around a shared purpose. As a long-term developer in Vietnam, we remain committed to working with trusted partners to help build stronger and more inclusive communities.”

Tan said CHF would continue supporting programs for vulnerable groups following its work with Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation.

Skye Maconachie, Co-CEO of Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation, said the foundation’s sustained support had allowed the organization to assist children and young people beyond periods of immediate crisis.

“Through education, vocational training, and skills development, young people can rebuild confidence, prepare for employment, and work towards greater independence,” she said.

Vietnamese songwriter and singer Bui Cong Nam also joined the online campaign and performed at the outdoor event.

“I enjoy staying active, and this campaign gave me a meaningful way to turn my daily steps into support for children and youth,” Nam said.

“Performing at the Step For Kindness event allowed me to see the wider community behind the effort. Giving back can begin with something simple, and when many people contribute together, those small actions can create real impact.”

The Fullton Regal, the second phase of CLD’s first luxury low-rise residential development in Hung Yen, was the main sponsor of this year’s campaign.

Other partners included Ascott International Management Vietnam, Vinhomes Joint Stock Company, VietinBank’s Hanoi Branch, Otsuka Nutraceutical Vietnam Co. Ltd., Gelato Stick Legend, SmartHeart Gold Vietnam, Lifestyle Viet Nam Joint Stock Company, Parkway Dental and BIBPIX Technology Ltd.
