8th Pay Commission Bhubaneswar visit July 2026

Bhubaneswar: The 8th Pay Commission will visit Bhubaneswar on July 6 and 7, 2026, as part of its ongoing nationwide consultations with government bodies, employee unions and pensioner associations.

The visit is part of a broader outreach effort by the Commission to gather region-specific feedback on salaries, allowances and pension structures for central government employees.

Stakeholders asked to apply in advance

In an official notice issued on May 26, the Commission invited organisations and unions interested in meeting the panel during the Bhubaneswar visit to submit appointment requests by June 15, 2026.

Applicants must include a “unique Memo ID”, which is generated after submitting their memorandum to the Commission.

Additionally, the last date for submitting memorandums through the official portal is May 31, 2026. Details regarding the venue and meeting schedule will be shared separately.

Part of nationwide consultation drive

The Bhubaneswar visit comes as the Commission expands consultations across the country to better understand the demands of employees and pensioners.

So far, meetings have been held in Delhi, with upcoming or announced visits to cities including:

  • Lucknow
  • Hyderabad
  • Srinagar
  • Ladakh
  • Jammu & Kashmir

More regional consultations are expected in the coming months.

Key demands from employee unions

Employee organisations across India have already placed several demands before the Commission. Some of the major issues include:

  • Increase in the fitment factor
  • Merger of Dearness Allowance (DA) with basic pay
  • Changes to the family-unit formula
  • Pension reforms
  • Introduction of OPS-like safeguards for retirees

These demands reflect growing concerns over rising inflation and the need for better financial security among employees and pensioners.

What the 8th Pay Commission will do

The 8th Pay Commission has been constituted to review and recommend revisions in:

  • Salaries of central government employees
  • Allowances and benefits
  • Pension structures

Its recommendations are expected to play a crucial role in shaping compensation policies for millions of government employees across the country.

Why this visit matters

The Bhubaneswar consultations are expected to be a key milestone in the Commission’s outreach process, allowing representatives from Odisha and nearby regions to directly present their concerns and suggestions.

As discussions intensify nationwide, these consultations will help the panel prepare a more comprehensive and balanced set of recommendations.
