New Delhi. The expectations of central employees and pensioners have increased regarding the Eighth Pay Commission. An important meeting of the Commission is proposed in Mumbai on 22nd and 23rd October, in which the suggestions of employee organizations and other stakeholders can be discussed. Issues like salary, pension, allowances and fitment factor may remain at the center of this discussion. However, there is no confirmation of the final announcement of salary hike in this meeting.
Demand to increase fitment factor
Employees and pensioners' organizations are demanding increase in the fitment factor in the new pay commission. Many organizations have proposed fitment factors as high as 3.833, while some have proposed 4 or more. A fitment factor of 2.57 was implemented in the Seventh Pay Commission. This time the final decision will be clear only after the review of the government and the recommendations of the commission.
How much can the salary increase?
At present, under the Seventh Pay Commission, the minimum basic salary of central employees is Rs 18,000. If in future the fitment factor becomes 2.62, then based on the calculations this amount can be Rs 47,160. At the same time, at the factor of 3 it will be Rs 54,000 and at 3.833 it will be Rs 68,994.
These are only estimates based on different proposals, and not the new salary announced by the government. The actual pay change will depend on the fitment factor, pay structure and final recommendations of the Commission.
When can the new pay commission be implemented?
The Eighth Pay Commission has been given 18 months to prepare its report. The picture of the new salary and pension of the employees will be clear only after the report is submitted, the government approves it and the date of implementation is decided. At present, the eyes of employees and pensioners are fixed on the meeting to be held in Mumbai and the upcoming official updates.
