Different organizations of central employees are also placing their demands before the Commission on priority. In this series, now the employee organizations have demanded 18 months of withheld Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief dues of the employees during Covid-19.

Government’s stance on employees’ DA

At present there is no proposal to pay the dues at that time. It was told by the Finance Ministry that in view of the pressure still on the budget, there is no logic in paying the old 18 months DA.

Giving a big relief to the central employees, the Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the Eighth Pay Commission in January 2025. After about 11 months, the government officially constituted the commission in November 2025. The new pay commission has got 18 months to prepare its recommendations. According to this, the commission can submit its report to the government by May 2027. After which the government will review and give its approval. Overall, central employees and pensioners will have to wait for mid-2027 or later for the Eighth Pay Commission to be implemented.

Commission meetings continue

The 8th Pay Commission has intensified talks with employee organizations and stakeholders. The commission is going to hold its next meeting in Bhubaneswar on July 6 and 7. After this, on July 9 and 10, he will talk to different employees’ organizations in Kolkata and implement their suggestions. Earlier, the Commission had held meetings at many places in April, May and June.
