New Delhi: The massive flood in Bhotekoshi river in Rasuwa region of Nepal has caused huge devastation. So far, 95 people have been confirmed dead in the accident, while a large number of people are still missing. 13 hydropower projects have been damaged by the flood and many vehicles were washed away in the strong current. Nepal Army has evacuated more than 250 people from the affected areas. 15 helicopters have been deployed in the rescue operation.
The number of missing people in Nepal has reached 463. These include 133 Indians, 52 foreigners and 13 Nepali citizens. A total of 31 passengers of Kailash Journey have also been reported missing, out of which 26 are foreign nationals, but their nationality has not been confirmed yet. SSB has kept 11 rescue and relief teams ready on the India-Nepal border, while 7 teams are on standby.
After the floods in Nepal, vigilance has also been increased in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The water level of Gandak, Narayani and Kosi rivers is being monitored. The administration has been alerted in sensitive areas of Bihar including Maharajganj and Kushinagar of Uttar Pradesh. At the same time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Nepal's PM Balen Shah on phone and assured all possible relief help.
65 tourists from West Bengal stranded in Nepal, increased concern for families
The bus carrying 65 tourists from Arambagh in Hooghly district of West Bengal to Nepal is currently stuck there. The bus is parked in Chetanpark, Nepal, which is about 120 kilometers away from the disaster affected area. This group left for Nepal on 24 August. After losing contact with the tourists on Wednesday morning, their families were worried. Contact was made in the evening, but due to network problem in Nepal, continuous conversation is not possible. The family members want all the tourists to return to Arambag safely as soon as possible. The bus owner is also worried about the passengers and the return of the bus.
Nepal flood: More than 250 rescued, Balen Shah gives assurance
Nepal's Prime Minister Balen Shah has expressed grief over the loss of life and property caused by the massive flood of Bhotekoshi river in Rasuwa. He said that the government has deployed the Army, Armed Police and Nepal Police in relief and rescue operations. More than 250 people have been evacuated safely by helicopters. 100 beds have been reserved in Kathmandu's Veer Hospital and National Trauma Center for the treatment of the injured. Shah said that searching for the missing people, treating the injured and providing food and water to the affected families is the first priority of the government. He assured that the government stands with the affected people in this difficult time.
