After the severe winter, the summer heat has started to increase all over the country. After the onset of summer season, in the afternoon after going anywhere under the hot sun, headache or pitta occurs. After the problem of pitta increases, there are numerous pains like acidity, gas, nausea, headache, vomiting. Some people get acidity immediately after eating any spicy food or oily food. Due to acidity, the food eaten is not properly digested. Kokum Tiwal should be made and drunk in summer to get relief from frequent pitta problems. This dish is prepared and drunk very fondly in every household in Konkan and Goa. If there is no kokma kadhi or tival in the dinner plate, it does not feel like eating at all. Kokum is considered a panacea to reduce excess bile in the body. Mixing a teaspoon of kokum juice in water and drinking it will completely eliminate the acidity. Coconut milk is used in making Solkadhi. But instead you can make Tiwal or ‘Futi Kadhi’ using just kokum syrup. Kokum Tiwal is not a drink but very beneficial for the body. Materials:

  • Kokum syrup
  • Green chillies
  • Garlic
  • salt
  • sugar
  • Coriander
  • water

Action:

  • To make kokum tiwal first, soak kokum in water or you can also use sour kokum syrup you have.
  • Take water as required in a large pot and pour kokum syrup in it and mix. Add finely chopped green chillies, crushed garlic and fresh coriander to the prepared mixture and mix well.
  • Then add salt and little sugar to it and keep stirring with a spoon. This will dissolve the sugar completely.
  • Keep the prepared mixture aside for sometime. This will release the garlic and chilli extract into the curry.
  • Ready kokum tiwal made in easy way. Kokum is a must after cooking chicken or fish meal.
  • After eating heavy food, make Solkadhi or Kokum Tiwal and drink it for digestion. It does not cause gas, acidity at all.
