Bumrah’s magic, Akshar’s fielding… India reached the final, Bethel’s century went in vain

Team India has made it to the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The defending champion team has defeated England by 7 runs in the second semi-final match played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Indian team has moved closer to its title defense by defeating the English team in a high-scoring thriller, where it will face New Zealand.

When the Indian team was invited to bat first, it scored 253 runs at the loss of 7 wickets. While chasing the huge target, the England team lost wickets at regular intervals but Jacob Bethel created panic in the Indian camp with his explosive batting from one end. It seemed that he, along with Will Jacques, would hand India a sensational defeat. Then Akshar Patel did a charismatic fielding on the boundary line on the last ball of the 14th over and gave Jax’s wicket to Team India.

After this the magic of Jasprit Bumrah started. Bumrah bowled the 16th and 18th overs economically and turned the match. He gave only 14 runs in these two overs, leaving Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dubey to defend 38 runs in the last 12 balls. Bethel was at the crease but it was impossible to score that many runs. He tried hard and fought till the end but his innings of 105 runs in 48 balls also proved to be insufficient. Bumrah gave 33 runs in 4 overs and took the wicket of English captain Harry Brook.

Hardik also did wonders

Hardik Pandya took 2 wickets for 38 runs in 4 overs. He broke England’s opening pair by taking the wicket of Salt. After this he gave only 9 runs in the 19th over and took the wicket of Sam Curran. Shivam Dubey had to defend 29 runs in the last over. He gave only 3 runs in the first 3 balls and ensured India’s victory. Joffra Archer hit 3 sixes in the last 3 balls but these runs only helped in reducing the margin of defeat.

Arshdeep Singh spent 51 runs in 4 overs. Varun Chakraborty was also expensive and gave away 64 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Arshdeep and Varun had one wicket each in their account. Akshar gave 35 runs in 3 overs and took 1 wicket.

Sanju scored runs for India

Earlier, after losing the toss and coming to bat first, the start of the Indian team was nothing special. Abhishek Sharma, who was struggling with bad form, went on after scoring 9 runs in 7 balls. He was succeeded by Will Jacques. After this Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan made a partnership of 97 runs. Ishaan was out after scoring 39 runs in 18 balls. Adil Rashid got him caught by Jacques. From here Sanju along with Shivam Dubey took India’s score to 160.

Sanju seemed to be moving towards his century but he became the victim of Jacques on his personal score of 89 runs. Surya could score only 11 runs in 6 balls. Shivam Dubey scored 43 runs in 25 balls. In the last overs, Hardik Pandya scored 27 runs in 12 balls, while Tilak Verma scored 21 runs in 7 balls, taking India beyond 250, which proved valuable in the end.
