After a long wait, aldermen have been appointed in 169 urban bodies in the state.

Bhopal . A major administrative decision has come regarding the urban bodies of Madhya Pradesh. After a long wait, aldermen have been appointed in 169 urban bodies in the state. Of these, four aldermen each have been appointed in 123 municipal councils and six aldermen have been appointed in 46 municipalities. In this regard, the state government issued an order on Sunday and the list of names of aldermen is ongoing.

It is noteworthy that Aldermen are nominated (appointed) councilors in urban bodies (Municipal Corporation, Municipality, Municipal Council). They are not directly elected by the public, but are appointed by the government or the concerned authority. They attend municipal body meetings and give their opinion in important decisions. They also give suggestions on the development, plans and projects of the city and raise important issues related to the city in the meeting. Apart from this, based on their experience, they help the administration in taking better decisions.

Whether the tenure of the Alderman will end with the tenure of the current council or will remain effective till further orders, will be known later. Due to lack of consensus among the bodies of Bundelkhand and Chambal, except Sagar, the list has been put on hold at present.
