The dream of Naxal-free Sukma came true with the sacrifice of 399 brave soldiers.

Sukma. Sukma district and the entire Bastar region of Chhattisgarh has been affected by Maoist terror and violent incidents since the 1980s. For decades, Maoist violence disrupted the region’s development, peace and normal life.

But as a result of indomitable courage, devotion to duty and supreme sacrifice of the security forces, Sukma has created history and fulfilled the resolve of Naxal-free Sukma – Naxal-free Bastar on 31st March 2026, and Sukma has been declared Naxal-free.

In this long struggle to establish peace, security and development in District Sukma, the security forces bravely faced difficult geographical conditions, continuous Maoist attacks, ambushes and IED blasts.

During this conflict, 373 brave soldiers of DRG/DEF/STF/COBRA/CRPF made supreme sacrifice and about 547 soldiers were injured in various Maoist incidents. The sacrifice, dedication and indomitable courage of these brave sons have today made Sukma free from fear and on the path of development.

Today, in the areas which were once affected by Maoist violence, new dimensions of roads, education, health, communication, administrative services and development are being established. This achievement is not just a security success, but an inspiring story of those immortal martyrs who sacrificed everything for the unity, integrity of the country and the safety of the common citizens.

District Sukma Police pays humble tribute to all the immortal martyrs and expresses its gratitude to their families. The sacrifice of the martyrs will always inspire and only a safe, peaceful and developed Sukma will be a true tribute to them.

According to the information received from the police, from Sukma district 1980 to 31 March 2026, total encounters – 469, total IED blast incidents – 142, total soldiers sacrificed – 399, total injured soldiers – 550.
