Ambedkar Jayanti 2026: Stock market closed today, see the results of the entire year..

Domestic stock markets National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) are closed today, Tuesday, April 14. The reason for this is Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Jayanti, which is celebrated as an important occasion throughout the country.

Stock Market: Today has been declared a national holiday in India on the occasion of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Jayanti, due to which the country’s major stock exchanges—National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)—remained closed for the entire day. There was no trading in equity, derivatives, currency and all other segments on this day.

Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti is one of the most important national occasions of India. This day is dedicated to the creator of the Constitution, Dr. B.R. It is celebrated to honor the contributions of Ambedkar. Not only government institutions but also financial markets remain closed on this occasion, requiring investors to plan in advance.

Commodity market timings are different

While trading remained closed for the entire day in NSE and BSE, there was partial trading in Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). The morning session on MCX remained closed, but trading continued from 5 pm to 11:30 pm. On the other hand, there was no trading on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) in both the sessions.

The impact of stock market holidays is not limited to trading only, but it also affects investment strategies and coordination with global markets. International investors, who are active in the Indian market, need to be aware of such holidays in advance, so that they can manage their portfolios better.

Major holidays of stock market in 2026

The Indian stock market remains closed throughout the year on various national and religious occasions. The next major holiday after April 14 will be on May 1 on the occasion of Maharashtra Day. After this, the markets will remain closed on Bakrid on 28th May, Muharram on 26th June and Ganesh Chaturthi on 14th September. There are also many important holidays in October and November. Trading will remain closed on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October, Dussehra on 20th October and Diwali Balipratipada on 10th November. Apart from this, the stock market will also remain closed on Guru Nanak Jayanti on 24th November and Christmas on 25th December.

Interestingly, the official trading holiday calendar for 2026 does not include a full holiday on Diwali. The reason for this is that this year Diwali is falling on Sunday, which is already a weekly holiday. However, as per Indian tradition, a special ‘Muhurat Trading’ session will be held on Diwali. This session will be held on 8 November 2026 (Sunday). During this time, investors symbolically buy and sell, which is considered auspicious. Muhurta trading timings will be announced separately by the exchange.
