The biggest shock in T20 was a record in the name of Abhishek Sharma which shocked the cricket world.

New Delhi . Amidst the exciting season of IPL 2026, a figure has emerged which has surprised the cricket lovers. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s young opener Abhishek Sharma has made a record entry in the name of which no batsman would want to associate with his career. In the match played against Rajasthan Royals, he was out on the very first ball and with this golden duck, he touched the unwanted figure of being out on zero for the seventh time in T20 cricket in the year 2026.

This was not just one bad innings but the next in a series that has now become a matter of concern. With this performance, Abhishek has made the record of being out on zero for the most number of times by an Indian batsman in a calendar year. Earlier this record was in the name of Rohit Sharma and Sanju Samson, who had touched the figure of being out on zero six times in different years. But Abhishek has left this figure behind and has created a new negative record.

The most surprising thing is that while Rohit Sharma and Sanju Samson had made their records in 32 innings, Abhishek Sharma achieved this figure in just 18 innings by getting out on zero seven times. This figure highlights his aggressive style as well as his instability. However, if we look at his batting statistics, the picture is not completely disappointing. So far in IPL 2026, he has scored 129 runs in five innings at an average of 25.80 and a tremendous strike rate of 215.80, in which his best score has been 74 runs.

Even in the T20 World Cup 2026 played before the IPL, his performance was full of ups and downs. Abhishek, who came on the field as the world number one T20 batsman, could not fully live up to the expectations and was able to score only 141 runs in eight innings. However, he definitely showed his potential by playing an important inning of 52 runs in the final match against New Zealand.

If we look at his overall performance for the year 2026, he has scored 452 runs in 18 T20 matches at an average of 26.58 and strike rate of 203.60. During this period, he has scored five half-centuries with his bat but being out on zero seven times is raising questions on his consistency.

Despite Abhishek’s failure in the match against Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad team performed brilliantly. Ishan Kishan, assuming the responsibility, played an explosive inning of 91 runs in 44 balls and took the team to a strong score. Along with him, Heinrich Klaasen and Travis Head also made important contributions due to which the team scored 216 runs in 20 overs.

  • In reply, Rajasthan Royals had a very poor start and the team lost five wickets in the first three overs. Sunrisers bowlers performed brilliantly, bowling out the opposition for 159 runs and registering a big win by 57 runs.

While on one hand Hyderabad’s victory in this entire match strengthened the team, on the other hand this record of Abhishek Sharma has become the center of discussion. This figure is like a warning to them that consistency is as important as aggression. In the coming matches, everyone’s eyes will be on whether he is able to overcome this pressure and give a new direction to his game or not.
