First quantum reference facility unveiled in Amravati, CM thanks PM

India’s first quantum reference facilities were inaugurated in Amravati on Tuesday, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the field of quantum technology. This inauguration was done on the occasion of World Quantum Day.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated ‘1S Open Access Quantum Facility’ at SRM University and ‘1Q Quantum Facility’ at Medha Towers.

According to officials, both these quantum testbeds will provide the necessary facilities to test quantum computing devices and their parts. With the commencement of both these facilities, Andhra Pradesh has become the first state in the country to have a quantum test reference facility. This gives Amravati Quantum Valley the ability to test and certify quantum computer hardware.

These quantum testbeds are designed to operate at very low temperatures, approximately minus 273 degrees Celsius. These facilities will be useful for quantum device manufacturing companies, researchers, students and industry experts.

The 1S facility built at SRM University will be used for research, while the 1Q facility at Medha Towers will be for industrial use. The event was attended by representatives of the National Quantum Mission, Department of Science and Technology, quantum companies, professors and scientists from IITs.

On this occasion, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said that Andhra Pradesh has created history by achieving this feat on the day of World Quantum Day, which is also associated with the completion of 100 years of quantum science. He said that Dr. B.R. A new beginning of the quantum era has started in Amravati on the day of Ambedkar’s birth anniversary.

He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who encouraged the creation of Amaravati Quantum Valley.

The Chief Minister said that 1S and 1Q quantum testbeds will play an important role in testing and certifying quantum devices. He said that it is a matter of pride that the Telugu land, which has already made significant contribution in the IT sector, is now becoming the hub of quantum technology.

He said that just as electricity was essential in the industrial age and internet in the digital age, similarly quantum technology is very important in modern times. The countries which are ahead in this technology will decide the future.

The Chief Minister said that Amravati Quantum Reference Facility will become an important resource for Indian researchers. He said that these facilities have been built in just 8 months, which has increased the technical capacity of the country.

Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, said that the establishment of quantum reference test facilities is a big step towards self-reliance. He said that Amravati can soon become the national center of AI and quantum technology.

He said that we should focus not only on quantum algorithms but also on other areas like atomic and cryogenic technologies. In view of the changing global situation, technical strength is necessary.

He also said that these facilities will boost manufacturing of quantum hardware in India and help in making the country self-reliant.
