Many demands including salary increase, weekly leave, discussed at night after labor movement in Noida
Wage increase, weekly holidays and better working conditions have emerged as major demands in the ongoing discussions of labor representatives with the high level committee constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government to end the protest taking place in Gautam Buddha Nagar. Officials gave this information on Monday.
The committee held a meeting with labor representatives and other stakeholders in Greater Noida, in which employees of various industrial units put forward their concerns in detail. This committee, formed on Monday on the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is being chaired by the Industrial Development Commissioner, which includes Additional Chief Secretary of MSME, Principal Secretary of Labor and Employment and Labor Commissioner as member secretaries, along with representatives of labor unions and industry organizations are also members.
What are the demands of the workers?
The protesting workers said that many employees are currently getting a monthly salary of Rs 10,000 to 15,000 and they are demanding to revise it to Rs 18,000 to Rs 20,000. He cited rising cost of living and pay disparity with neighboring states like Haryana. The employees have also raised the demand for strict enforcement of guaranteed weekly leave and double overtime payment.
We have been working for years without any meaningful salary increase. Our demand is simple – we want fair wages that reflect current costs, workers at an industrial unit in Sector 63 say, adding that the demands are not limited to wages alone. Demanded weekly leave, fair overtime payment and better treatment at the workplace. This is not just a matter of salary, but also a matter of respect.
Concerns over job security and implementation of labor laws
According to district administration officials, the workers also expressed their concerns on job security, implementation of labor laws and the need for a respectful and safe environment at the workplace. District Magistrate Medha Rupam said the committee is focused on resolving issues through dialogue. He said, the committee will consult all the stakeholders and submit its recommendations on priority basis. The interests of workers will be protected by maintaining industrial peace.
An official associated with the discussions said that the workers clearly put forward their demands related to wage revision, overtime and working conditions before the panel. Officials said that more meetings will be held in the coming days and the decision on main demands, especially salary revision, will be taken at the government level. Meanwhile, the administration has appealed to the workers to maintain peace, return to workplaces and stay away from rumours. He urged to trust only official information.
