Trump will end China’s lifeline! After Hormuz, now this sea route is under scrutiny

Amidst the increasing tension regarding the Strait of Hormuz in the Middle East, a new case has now come to light, which has attracted the attention of the world. While America is increasing pressure on the sea routes connected to Iran, it is now also eyeing another important sea route, the Malacca Strait. Recently a new defense agreement has been signed between America and Indonesia. Under this agreement, American military aircraft will now be able to use more of Indonesia’s airspace. Officially this is described as increasing defense cooperation, but it could further strengthen America’s access to the Malacca Strait.

The Strait of Malacca is a very important sea route, which connects the Indian Ocean to East Asia. A large part of the world’s trade passes through this route. From here, not only oil but also electronic goods, machines and many other essential things are transported from one place to another.

In comparison, the Strait of Hormuz is more important for oil, while the Malacca Strait acts as a major lifeline for the entire trade. This route is especially important for countries like China, because a large part of its energy needs come through this route. For this reason, China also sees it as its weakness, which is called Malacca Dilemma. Even though America is not directly dependent on this route, it looks at it from a strategic point of view. This path is very narrow at many places, so controlling it can be very important in any situation of tension or war.

India’s role is also very important in this whole matter. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are located near the Strait of Malacca, which makes it easier for India to keep an eye on this area. Military bases located here, especially Campbell Bay Air Station, help in keeping an eye on maritime activities. India is gradually increasing its strength in this region. It is strengthening its presence through new infrastructure and military facilities. In such a situation, cooperation between America and India in this area may increase in future to balance the influence of China.

It will not be easy for America to increase its dominance in the Malacca Strait. Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore jointly manage this route and their borders and rights are very important for these countries. Singapore has special importance in this region, because its port and maritime services are far ahead in the world. Its economy also depends largely on maritime trade, so it is important for it to maintain stability here. In recent times, debate has also increased regarding tariffs and restrictions on sea routes, which has increased concern in the countries of South-East Asia. In such a situation, this new strategy of America shows that it wants to strengthen its hold on not just one, but many important sea routes simultaneously.
