Asia’s ‘most beautiful island’ welcomes over 2.2 million air passengers in first quarter

Phu Quoc Airport handled more than 2.27 million passengers in the first three months of the year, up 147% year-on-year, as tourism surged on the island voted Asia’s most beautiful by readers of Condé Nast Traveler.

Growth was recorded across both domestic and international segments.

International passenger numbers reached around 1.2 million, while domestic traffic exceeded 1.07 million.

Key markets such as South Korea continued to lead the international segment, while the Ho Chi Minh City-Phu Quoc route accounted for a significant share of domestic traffic.

Phu Quoc has become a bright spot of Vietnam’s tourism sector.

The island received 817,000 foreign visitors in the first quarter of this year, up 72% year-on-year, according to a report from An Giang Province’s Department of Tourism.

It eyes 2 million foreigners this year.

The island is going through major infrastructure upgrades to host APEC 2027.
