Ambikapur: Human travel on cargo vehicles will be heavy, instructions for strict action

Ambikapur. The police administration has now adopted a strict stance to curb road accidents and prevent loss of lives in Surguja district. DIG and SSP Surguja, Rajesh Kumar Aggarwal (I.P.S.) on Wednesday gave clear instructions to all the police stations and outpost in-charges of the district that strict action should be taken against those transporting passengers unsafely in goods vehicles.

It is noteworthy that during various events, people travel in pickups, trucks and other goods vehicles in rural and urban areas with more people than their capacity, which is not only against the rules but also proves to be fatal. The SSP has directed gazetted police officers to hold meetings of vehicle owners and drivers in their areas to alert them about the rules and ensure punitive action like heavy fine, cancellation of permits and vehicle confiscation if violations are found.

The police administration has made it clear to the citizens that goods vehicles are made only for the purpose of carrying goods; There is no proper arrangement or security cordon for the safety of passengers. In such vehicles, there is a risk of loss of balance due to standing or sitting passengers, which can lead to major accidents even on turns or minor shocks. Riding in goods vehicles is completely prohibited under the Motor Vehicles Act and if caught, both the vehicle owner and the driver will have to face serious legal consequences.

Surguja Police has made an emotional appeal to the general public to give priority to the safety of themselves and their family members and choose only those vehicles for traveling which are authorized to carry passengers. The aim of the police is to effectively reduce road accidents through enforcement of traffic rules, so that every citizen has a safe journey.
