Why did the industry become silent on the success of Dhurandhar? Kunal Kohli said that big directors were waiting for flops.
New Delhi . The bitter truths hidden behind the glamor of the film industry are often not revealed, but when someone talks about them openly, many illusions would shatter. Recently, filmmaker Kunal Kohli has revealed one such truth which has raised questions on the thinking within Bollywood. He told how before the release of the film Dhurandhar. Big names in the industry were waiting for its failure.
According to Kunal Kohli, when Dhurandhar was about to be released, no one had faith in it, even the veteran directors of the industry had given negative opinion about it. He revealed that during the conversation with many big directors, he was clearly told that this film would not survive till Monday and would sit at the box office but exactly the opposite happened. The film broke the expectations and performed brilliantly and won the hearts of the audience.
Kunal Kohli also said that until the film achieved success, it did not get any support from the industry. This situation has been seen not only with Dhurandhar but with many big films. Giving an example, he mentioned the film Border 2 and told that negative things were said about this film in the beginning but later this film surprised everyone by earning more than Rs. 300 crores.
He also shared the experience of his film Hum Tum and told that during the preview show before its release, the people of the industry did not like this film much, due to which he was quite disappointed. At that time Aditya Chopra had explained to him that this film is not going to be understood by everyone and this is its specialty. Later this film proved to be a big hit among the audience.
Kunal Kohli said in very clear words that 99 percent of the people in the industry want that the other person should not succeed. This statement is not only shocking but also tells the truth of the competitive environment of the film industry where failure is discussed more than success.
Comedian Zakir Khan’s statement on this whole issue was also in discussion. He had jokingly said in an award show that people may praise Dhurandhar but inside he will definitely be jealous. Actress Ameesha Patel, while reacting to this statement, had called it a negative thinking.
Kunal Kohli’s point makes it clear that the real test of a film is among the audience and not in the prejudices of the industry. The success of Dhurandhar is an example of the fact that if the content is strong then it can leave behind all kinds of criticism and this is also the real strength of cinema.
