What did Manish Tiwari say on the Women’s Reservation Bill?
Congress MP Manish Tewari said, “This is not a Women’s Reservation Bill, it is a Delimitation Bill which has been given the form of a Women’s Reservation Bill, and this is the main objection. I am a strong supporter of women’s reservation. The government should separate it from delimitation. They should bring a proposal before the House that one-third of the existing 543 seats in Parliament, i.e. 181 seats, should be reserved for women and it should be implemented by 2029. However, when you When you add that to the process of delimitation, you get completely confused, because unless you rethink the basic formula of Indian democracy, which is enshrined in Articles 81 to A, that is, one person, one vote and one value, the peripheral states and those states which have implemented development initiatives, especially population stabilization since the 42nd Amendment of 1976, will always be at a disadvantage.”
