Navi Mumbai Airport: Third runway soon at Navi Mumbai Airport? Important step taken by CIDCO
Navi Mumbai Airport Navi Mumbai International Airport was established to reduce the pressure on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai. The airport is jointly built by CIDCO and Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL). After the inauguration of this airport by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 8, 2025, it joined the service of passengers. Spread over an area of 1,160 hectares, the airport handles daily domestic and international flights. At present, there are two parallel runways at Navi Mumbai Airport, but due to the increasing number of passengers, a third runway will soon be constructed at Navi Mumbai Airport. City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has taken steps in this direction.
CIDCO has appointed a joint venture consultant of RITES Limited and Creative Group LLP to conduct a ‘techno-commercial feasibility study’ for the proposed third runway at Navi Mumbai International Airport. According to officials, air travel in and around Mumbai is increasing rapidly. By 2040, the number of air passengers in the Mumbai metropolitan region could reach around 150 million. Therefore, it is considered necessary to plan from now on, considering the future needs. Navi Mumbai Airport
