Delhi Airport: A major accident was avoided! Two planes collide at Delhi airport, all passengers safe

A major incident is emerging from Delhi airport. A SpiceJet flight collided with an Akasa Air flight while taxiing at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport). The right winglet of the SpiceJet aircraft was damaged in the incident, which grounded the aircraft.

A SpiceJet spokesperson said in a statement, “On April 16, 2026, At Delhi Airport A SpiceJet B737-700 crashed on the ground while taxiing. The plane’s right winglet was damaged in the accident, while the left side horizontal stabilizer of the other airline’s plane was also damaged. As a precautionary measure, this SpiceJet flight has been grounded at Delhi airport.”

An Acasa Air spokesperson said in a statement, “On April 16, 2026, Acasa Air flight QP-1406 en route from Delhi to Hyderabad had to return to the bay. While the Akasa Air aircraft was parked in the bay area, it collided with another airline’s aircraft. All passengers and crew were evacuated safely.” The airline’s ground staff made alternative arrangements to get the passengers to Hyderabad as soon as possible.

Both the airlines have submitted a preliminary report of the incident to the DGCA. As per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), the Chief Safety Engineer has prepared a preliminary report and conveyed it to the DGCA. DGCA officials have inspected the aircraft involved in the ground incident at IGI airport.

Last week, in a similar incident at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, an IndiGo plane parked in the Bay Area was rammed by a vehicle. According to IndiGo Airlines, the vehicle belonged to a third party and was unmanned. The vehicle suddenly accelerated and hit the plane parked in the Bay Area. IndiGo immediately withdrew the aircraft from service due to safety reasons.

Passengers were sent to Hyderabad by another aircraft – Akasa

An Acasa Air flight (QP 1406) en route from Delhi to Hyderabad met with an accident at the Delhi airport, an Acasa Air spokesperson said. While the plane was parked, it collided with another airline’s plane. As a result, the aircraft was canceled and had to be brought back to the parking bay. It is a relief that all passengers and crew are safe. Akasa Air is now arranging another flight to take the passengers to Hyderabad.
